GMO Internet Group's GMO Payment Gateway, Inc. (TSE partial: securities code 3769, President & Chief Executive Officer: Issei Ainoura hereinafter referred to as "GMO-PG"), which develops comprehensive payment-related services and finance-related services, is a "Ginko Pay" (formerly known as a smartphone-based payment linked to a bank account. The Bank of Okinawa, Ltd. (Director & President: Masayasu Yamashiro, hereinafter referred to as "The Bank of Okinawa"). The Bank of Okinawa plans to roll out its own smartphone-based payment service, OKI Pay, which utilizes the Ginko Pay platform, by March 2019.

"Ginko Pay" is a service that allows users who have an account with a bank that has introduced the system to immediately make payment such as direct debit from a smartphone app when shopping at a member store (*1). Since it also supports mutual cooperation (multi-bank) between banks that have introduced the service, The Bank of Yokohama has already developed the service, Fukuoka Financial Group (Fukuoka Bank, The Kumamoto Bank, Shinwa Bank), and the three Resona Group banks (Resona Bank, Saitama Resona Bank, Osaka Bank) and Japan Post Bank, which are scheduled to be introduced. 【Background and Summary】

Even with the recent global spread of cashless payments, in Japan, cashless payments only made up 20% of all payments in 2016, relatively low compared to other countries. This has pushed the government to undertake various initiatives*2 in order to raise this to approximately 40% by 2025. Under such an environment, Japan's banks and other financial institutions are exploring new business opportunities with the aim of further promoting the use of cashless payments.

In order to support the cashless use of such financial institution, GMO-PG provides a platform system of "Ginko Pay" that allows immediate direct debits from a smartphone app in conjunction with a bank account, and is being introduced or planned to be introduced in the following financial institution (see "About Ginko Pay").
Ginko Pay The Bank of Okinawa plans to roll out its own smartphone-based payment service, OKI Pay, that utilizes the Ginko Pay platform system by March 2019.
