(Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President & Chief Executive Officer: Issei Ainoura), GMO Financial Gate, Inc. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President & Chief Executive Officer: Sugiyama Kentaro) will start a demonstration experiment project on Friday, April 16 for the Fukuoka City Subway "Tenjin-Hakata 1-Day Free Ticket" transportation boarding scheme using Visa's Touch payment as part of the Fukuoka City Demonstration Experiment Full Support Project (*1).

This is the first time in Japan that digital tickets such as one-day free tickets using Visa's Touch payment have been introduced.

The Fukuoka City Subway, which is operated by the Fukuoka City Transportation Bureau, is scheduled to open a route between Tenjin Minami Station ~ Hakata Station on the Nanakuma Line in FY2022, and in order to verify the demand for travel between Tenjin ~ Hakata in advance of that, we have announced a new "Tenjin-Hakata 1-day free ticket (*2)".
This demonstration experiment is an effort to make a transition from paper tickets to digital tickets, and to commercialize new sales of such tickets through Visa's Touch payment and a stress-free boarding method. Tickets can be purchased via posters or on the ticket purchase site. To get on the train, simply hold the Visa card that supports Touch payment that you payment in advance with a ticket purchase or the QR code displayed on the dedicated sales site over the dedicated reader at the ticket gate where the station staff is present. In addition, it is also possible to use the award (*3) at nearby facilities.
In the field of transportation, which is indispensable to daily life, Visa Touch payment is already commonly used as a safe and secure payment method for a new way of life in many cities around the world, including Europe. Due to the growing interest of consumers in "non-contact" due to the corona disaster, we believe that we can provide a convenient and secure daily life in Japan. With this scheme, not only domestic users in Japan but also travelers from overseas can complete everything from transportation to shopping with a single Visa touch payment, greatly improving convenience.

It's easy because it's 3 steps!

1. From ticket purchase to boarding and use of benefits at nearby facilities

Step 1
(Site Access)
Touch or scan the QR code on the NFC tag on the poster with your smartphone and use Visa (*4) to access the ticket purchase site
Step 2
(Purchase)
Purchase tickets at the ticket purchase site
Step 3
(Activate)
After checking the operation status, access the ticket purchase site on the day of use and activate (activate) the ticket.
* If you have registered your e-mail address at the time of ticket purchase, you can also access the site from the URL listed in the purchase e-mail
Step 4
(Ride)
Use it by holding one of the following over the dedicated reader installed at the ticket gate where the station staff is located.
1) The touch-payment-enabled Visa card you used to make the purchase
2) QR code displayed on the dedicated sales site
* Customers using a Visa card that supports Touch payment can use either a Visa card or a QR code
Step 5
(Use of awards)
At stores with reading terminals, hold the purchased media over the reader terminal in the same way as in "Step 4" to use the benefits

Visa's Touch payment is a payment method that utilizes international standard security authentication technology deployed in approximately 200 countries and regions around the world, including Japan. Globally, 43% of Visa's face-to-face transactions are already done via touch payment (*6). (As of the end of September 2020)

Currently, Visa Touch payment is already available on public transport in London, Singapore, New York and other cities. In addition, there are approximately 500 public transportation projects underway around the world, and the number is expected to increase rapidly in the future. There are also contactless cards in London and Singapore Actual that use contactless cards from more than 100 countries and territories, providing a stress-free journey for inbound tourists.
As of the end of December 2020, Japan has issued more than 36.7 million Visa Touch payment cards (*7), and the number of stores where they can be used is rapidly expanding, including supermarkets, convenience stores, and fast-food restaurants, contributing to user convenience and improved operations at member stores.
