GMO Payment Gateway, Inc. (TSE partial: Securities Code: 3769, President & Chief Executive Officer: Issei Ainoura, hereinafter referred to as "GMO-PG"), which develops comprehensive payment-related services and finance-related services in the GMO Internet Group, will provide payment screens and payment processing services in a new payment method using smartphones, which will be gradually launched by TEPCO Energy Partner Co., Ltd. (President & Chief Executive Officer: Nobuhide Akimoto, hereinafter referred to as "TEPCO EP"), which operates the retail electricity business of the Tokyo Electric Power Company Group, from November 2020 onward.
【Background and Summary】
In recent Japan, the introduction of online payment is progressing not only in online shopping and services, but also in payment such as utility charge and taxes in the infrastructure sector such as electricity and gas charges. Especially in today's world, where it is necessary to avoid the three Cs (closed, crowded, and close) to prevent infection with the new coronavirus, this trend is expected to accelerate. GMO-PG, on the other hand, has been providing online payment services for public entity since 2007, helping to move online in national and municipalities taxes and utility charge payment.
GMO-PG will provide a payment screen and payment processing services for TEPCO EP to gradually change the method of payment electricity bills and other expenses from November 2020 to a method that allows payment procedures to be carried out on a smartphone using a mobile phone number.
TEPCO EP introduces a new payment method called "SMS Choice of Payment" in which the payment billing information and the URL of the user's dedicated payment screen are notified to the user's smartphone SMS and the user's payment procedure is performed on the smartphone. It is possible to payment with either Credit card payment" or "PAYSLE payment" (*).
GMO-PG will continue to support the digitalization of Japan industries from payment perspectives.
