(*1) Subscription is a type of sales such as services and software that cost according to the contract period. In the case of products, it is a subscription-type sales method that regularly delivers products during the contract period.

【Background and Summary】

In Japan, the subscription business began as a sales method such as "subscription" and "goods-of-the-month delivery service" that regularly delivered daily necessities, food, books, and other consumables at a fixed price during the contract period. In recent years, the scope of the subscription business has expanded as consumer needs have changed. For example, in the content industry, the use of recurring payment-based music and video streaming services is expanding due to the change in needs from one-time purchase type "ownership" such as purchase and download to "use" to "use" to watch and listen to content online whenever you want, with continuous payment usage fees.
On the other hand, businesses that sell products and services will shift from a one-time purchase type to a subscription type, and will not be a "flow type" that earns revenue each time it is sold, but a "stock type" that can continuously earn revenue, so stable management can be achieved and we can continue to propose products and services that meet customer needs at optimal prices. Ongoing relationship building is possible.
Against this backdrop, the introduction of subscription businesses has recently expanded to businesses in various fields such as IoT, cloud, healthcare, media, and education, as well as various product retailers, such as regular rentals of clothes and regular delivery of cosmetics and miscellaneous goods selected by experts.

However, it is difficult to do everything in-house in the subscription business because of the mechanism that incurs multiple bills and payment for each user's charge, which requires the burden of managing billing data and payment, as well as system development when new services are added or prices are changed. Many businesses were unable to shift to a subscription model.

■ Zuora's platform for subscription businesses

To address these challenges, Zuora offers Relationship Business Management (RBM), ™ a platform that combines the capabilities of a subscription business, including product and service pricing, quoting, web sales, contract management, payment, revenue accrual, reporting and analytics, and more. The platform allows operators to quickly deploy their subscription business to meet customer needs, and has been adopted by nearly 800 large companies around the world, including IBM and General Motors. In Japan, cloud services such as freee and Team Spirit are being introduced in the IoT and media industries.

GMO-PG provides payment capabilities as Zuora's payment partner in the Japan market

Now, GMO-PG is the first payment partner in the country to offer payment capabilities as Zuora rolls out a subscription platform for Japan operators. In the Zuora platform, you could not select Japan domestic payment services, but GMO-PG's domestic payment service will be available (* 2).

In the future, GMO-PG and Zuora will work together to support subscription businesses in various fields such as IoT, cloud, healthcare, media, and education.
(*2) payment To use the function, contract with GMO-PG is required.
