GMO Payment Gateway, Inc.
GMO Internet Group develops non-face-to-face credit card payment processing business GMO Payment Gateway, Inc. (TSE Partial: Securities code 3769 Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President & Chief Executive Officer: Issei Ainoura hereinafter referred to as "GMO-PG") is a subsidiary of Scubism Technology Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President & Chief Executive Officer: Masanori Takeshita Hereinafter, S Tech), the tablet POS system "EC-Orange POS" provided by the company has been equipped with the smartphone (smartphone) payment service "GMO Pallet" as standard equipment from April 2, 2015 (Thursday). As a result, stores using EC-Orange POS will be able to achieve the following two points.
1) Providing consumers (store customers) with smartphone-based payment through "GMO Pallet", which allows customers to payment credit cards at physical stores with a smartphone app.
2) In addition to the member information of stores managed by EC-Orange POS, customer information such as customer attributes (gender, date of birth, age) and store visit and purchase history received payment through GMO Pallet are collectively managed and used for marketing measures.
In addition, we have already started to introduce system linkage for stores and companies using "EC-Orange POS", and it is currently scheduled to be introduced at Smiles Co., Ltd., which operates Soup Stock Tokyo and other stores, and Sunny Table Co., Ltd., which operates "Restaurant Casita".
Background and Overview
GMO-PG's "GMO Pallet" is a smartphone-based payment service that allows consumers to payment their cards at physical stores on a smartphone app. In addition to streamlining card payment processing, stores can also manage customer information such as store visit and sales history accumulated in the app.
On the other hand, "EC-Orange POS" provided by S-Tech is a POS system that can perform POS cash register operations on smart devices such as iPadR and Windows® 8 tablets. In addition to ordering at restaurants and cashiering and accounting at retail stores, it can also be used for customer service and inventory management, as well as O2O (*1) by linking inventory and sales information between e-commerce sites and stores, and is used by more than 4,100 stores (*2) nationwide Japan mainly restaurants, retail stores, and chain stores.
POS systems are widely used in various industries, including restaurants and retail stores, for the purpose of inventory and order management and grasping sales trends because they can collect information at the point of sale of products, such as "when, where, and what was sold". In recent years, there has been a growing need among businesses that have introduced such POS systems to manage the collected data together with customer attribute information such as "what kind of person made the purchase" in order to make effective use of it for sales promotion activities. However, unlike industries such as apparel shops and beauty salons, which encourage membership registration and provide points and detailed services tailored to customers, it is difficult for supermarkets and restaurants to get customers to register as members, and there are many stores that do not have a system to manage members.
Therefore, GMO-PG and S-Tech have installed "GMO Pallet" in "EC-Orange POS" so that even stores that do not have a membership system can grasp customer information (gender, date of birth, age, number of visits to the store, payment history) of customers who have payment with "GMO Pallet". In addition, since the EC-Orange POS smartphone app can be used consistently from ordering to smartphone-based payment by GMO Pallet, it is possible to introduce smartphone-based payment without burdening operations at the store.
Currently, we are planning to introduce the service at Smiles Co., Ltd., which operates Soup Stock Tokyo, etc., and Sunny Table Co., Ltd., which operates "Restaurant Casita," and we will continue to strive to spread the service with the goal of reaching 1,000 stores by the end of this year.
(*1) O2O: An abbreviation for Online to Offline, which is a service that uses information and services on the Internet to promote customer visits to physical stores.
(*2) As of March 2015
Use of GMO Pallet at EC-Orange POS
Stores using "EC-Orange POS" can easily transfer the payment amount data received by the cash register function of "EC-Orange POS" to "GMO Pallet" by setting "GMO Pallet" from the POS. As a result, store staff can save the time and effort of launching the "GMO Pallet" app and entering the amount again at the time of customer's checkout. (*3)
In addition, customer information such as store visit and purchase history accumulated through the use of "GMO Pallet" can be centrally managed within "EC-Orange POS". Even stores that do not have a membership registration system can effectively market by combining GMO Pallet's customer information with EC-Orange POS POS data and utilizing detailed information such as "when, where, what, and by whom" to conduct marketing effectively.
(*3) To use the linked service, you need to apply separately for "GMO Pallet".

Things you'll love about EC-Orange POS
The EC-Orange POS provided by S-Tech is a next-generation POS system that packs the functions of a POS register into a smart tablet. The high level of convenience that can be used not only for cash registers but also for customer service, inventory management, and O2O was highly evaluated, and we won the No. 1 market share (*6) in terms of the construction price of tablet POS.
In February 2013, in response to requests from companies that use tablets in their store operations, such as "I want to use Office products such as Excel and PowerPoint" and "I want to use Internet Explorer as the browser in order to continue using the existing system," we launched WindowsR We are the first POS system dedicated to 8 tablets in Japan (according to our own research) that supports Windows R8 tablets. As of March 2015, this system has been installed in more than 4,100 stores nationwide.
